Oak Life branches are an outward focus—joining God at work in the world. They stretch and connect us, providing perches and shelter to the greater community. Here are some ways Oak Life regularly reaches out:
Third Sunday Generosity: Every third Sunday of the month Oak Life donates its entire offering to a local cause/organization/need that reflects our values. You can check out a "thank you" video from some of our third Sunday partners here.
Project Peace East Bay: Oak Life financially supports the work of Project Peace and we also join with the hundreds of other folks for the frequent "Days of Service".
Community Justice Team: Is a group of Oak Life folks who meet once a month to discuss justice issues within and outside of the church. Click here to read more about their work.
Community Group Engagement: Oak Life is connected to and supports organizations working to bring about Peace and Justice in our broader community like Oakland Community Organizations and the Interfaith Council of Alameda County.
Courtland Creek Cleanups: Twice a year Oak Life cleans a local creek as a way to show our value of Creation Care.
Oakland Pride: Each year Oak Life has a presence at the Oakland Pride fesitval as a way for us to show love and seek reconcilation with the LGBT+ community. Click here for a blog/video recap on a past year.
Random Volunteering: Branches can also include things like neighborhood cleanups, overseas ministry, putting on a benefit show for a non-profit, or volunteering at a local festival. Opportunities to serve and grow are happening continuously so just hang around and you’ll be invited to jump in!
Oak Life roots are an inward focus—going deep with God. They include our values and beliefs, discipleship, knowledge of scripture, tradition, and place.
Roots are developed through our regular weekly gatherings and other opportunities for study and reflection. Throughout each season, we focus on specific times of prayer or fasting. Sometimes we’ll do it together, and sometimes we’ll do it individually.
We also periodically invite the Oak Life community to get away from it all, rest, reflect, and center on God’s reality for our lives and the world by going on spiritual retreats.
Here are some ways we're going deep together right now:
-Life Groups throughout the week
-Weekly music practice
-Cups and Couches periodic gatherings
-Reading on the Blog
-Periodic Reading Groups
-Worship/Prayer/Communion Pop Ups
