Are you stranded in this wonderful place with no memory of who you are? Has the city commute extinguished the flames of passion for this urban setting? Whether you are old lovers, honeymooners, or just friends, Oakland is a city worth loving well. Below we offer ideas and venues for you to experience this city the way it should be. Make no mistake, there are far too many facets of this promised land to list here, but consider it a start. *    Below is an ongoing list of organizations/places/things/spots that make this city so great, put together by folks from Oak Life:

organizations

One of the best ways to fall in love with a place is to serve alongside other folks or engage with awesome communities . Here are are just a couple organizations/communities/causes that make Oakland so great:

O.C.O. is a collaboration of various community groups working together to take action on various issues in the city

Regina's Door- More than just a storefront boutique, Regina empowers a community of activits and artists working to end and prevent human trafficking here in Oakland.  She's also a friend of Oak Life!

Trybe: A Non Profit working with young people on the East Side of Lake Merritt.

Institute of Urban Homesteading: A great org that works to help folks become more DIY with urban farming, food creating, etc.

We could go on- Oakland has one of the most incredibly socially engaged cultures of any city in the country.  Just do some google searches on Oakland's community and you'll be blown away.

* It is a little strange to promote businesses on a church website. Didn't Jesus get upset when he saw the marketplace in the Temple? These are not paid advertisements or marketing ploys to get your money. We just love to fellowship, and fellowship is way sweeter when you are doing good stuff, eating good food, and drinking good drink. If you still feel convicted please email our pastor: chris.oaklife@gmail.com.
